The inauguration ceremony of the power generation project from waste heat at VICEM But Son - Ha Nam

The inauguration ceremony of the project: Investment in the construction of a facility to harness waste heat from production lines 1 and 2 for electricity generation at VICEM But Son - Ha Nam Cement Joint Stock Company."

Summary of the Project Implementation Process: Investment in the construction of a facility utilizing waste heat from production lines 1 and 2 for electricity generation at VICEM Bút Sơn Cement Joint Stock Company.

In line with the state policies and regulations, specifically Decision 1488/QĐ-TTg dated August 29, 2011, and Decision 1469/QĐ-TTg dated August 22, 2014, issued by the Government regarding the approval of the development of the cement industry in Vietnam and the overall planning for the development of construction materials towards 2030, it became necessary to invest in a system that harnesses waste heat from kilns to generate electricity and utilize alternative fuels.

With the approval of the Ministry of Construction and the guidance, assistance, and agreement from the Vietnam Cement Corporation, in December 2019, VICEM Bút Sơn Cement Joint Stock Company made the decision to invest in the project "Investment in the construction of a facility utilizing waste heat from production lines 1 and 2 for electricity generation." The project falls under Group B, Category II Industrial Power Plant, with a total installed capacity of 12 MW (2 x 6 MW).

After following the prescribed procedures and sequences to implement the project, in June 2022, Bút Sơn Cement Joint Stock Company signed Contract Package No. 1 "Supply of design, equipment, materials, technical services, processing, installation, and domestic procurement" with the joint venture of contractors Sinoma-Amecc. In February 2023, Bút Sơn Cement signed Contract Package No. 2 "Construction of the project" with Amecc Company.

The project groundbreaking took place on February 9, 2023. The project's implementation schedule, according to the contract, aimed to complete the project by December 18, 2023.

With the guidance and assistance of the Vietnam Cement Corporation, VICEM Bút Sơn Cement, along with the joint venture of contractors SINOMA-AMECC, successfully overcame challenges, collaborated in line with the contract terms, and completed the project.

As a result, production line 2 underwent a trial power generation on November 21, 2023, exceeding the schedule by 27 days; production line 1 conducted a trial power generation on December 1, 2023, surpassing the schedule by 18 days.

The waste heat utilization system for power generation is a clean and green power generation system, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering dust, and enhancing equipment efficiency. It supplies 25-30% of the total electricity consumption of the entire factory.

Especially, the system has proven effective in business operations. In December 2023, the system generated over 7 million kWh, equivalent to revenue of over 12 billion VND.

The project successfully completed the warranty test criteria from 8:00 on December 13, 2023, to 8:00 on December 16, 2023.

The overall performance of both production lines is stable, with the average total output of the two production lines reaching 12.3 MW, surpassing the installation capacity by 2.5%. Self-consumption of electricity averages 5.69% of the power generated, reducing compared to the contract target of 7%. Average raw water consumption is 0.0051m3/kWh, lower than the contract target of 0.01m3/kWh.

As of now, the project has successfully completed acceptance conditions, handed over, and commenced operations.

This project is not only the result of strong collaboration between the joint venture of contractors AMECC - SINOMA and VICEM But Son Cement Joint Stock Company but also represents a significant step in the energy transition and environmental protection journey. On January 11, 2024, the inauguration ceremony took place at VICEM But Son, with the special participation of AMECC.

Contract Package No. 1 of the project played a decisive role, accounting for 76% of the total project value. In this contract package, AMECC - SINOMA successfully provided design, equipment, materials, technical services, manufacturing, installation, and domestic procurement. This marked a crucial step for the project, determining the technology, capacity, and efficiency of the waste heat power generation line.

Thanks to the consensus and favorable cooperation in Contract Package No. 1, VICEM and AMECC swiftly proceeded to sign Contract Package No. 2 on February 6, 2023. Contract Package No. 2 elevated the project to new heights, efficiently utilizing waste heat for power generation, creating long-term, sustainable economic value.

The event is not only an occasion to commemorate a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two partners but also an opportunity for AMECC and its partners to celebrate the efforts of the industry in developing towards sustainability and environmental friendliness. AMECC takes pride in being part of this success and is committed to continuing contributions to meaningful projects for the environment and society.
